The magnificent display of AA village signs from members Nick Campling, Steve Knight and Alan Mattin. It is hoped that a further three may be on display in the museum soon. |
Ginger Pittway relaxes in the garden after examining the displays and discussing "Cinderella" stamp issues with the Curator. A special sheet from the Perfect State of Flatby was available on the day. The Honourable (LBSG) Member for Severn Beach may be seen in the background with the Hendon contingent. |

The July 9th Open Day at the Colne Valley Postal History Museum was our second one especially for LBSG members. Since the first one in 2003, the collection has nearly doubled and some major exhibits such as the Groups Hong Kong pillar and the Penfold have been added, as well as 56 sq ft of covered exhibition space.
The day dawned rather damp and overcast, but brightened into a glorious summer afternoon. We had six visiting Ludlow boxes from the collections of members Greg Leary and Ross Courtier giving a grand total of 16 Ludlows on the day. In addition Ross kindly left his early E7R C wall box here after shot blasting for comparison with our own later version. Members Nick Campling and Alan Mattin brought their AA village signs along so that on the day we had no less than 10. For the milestone enthusiasts these were: Codnor, Gt Gransden, Loxhove Cott, Wetheringsett, Ottery St Mary, Hitcham St, Ford St, West Mersea, Marks Tey and Colchester. All the stamp vending machines were loaded and working, our latest box, the Second National Standard wall box was unveiled and sales from the members bring-and-buy tables were brisk. More than 30 members attended, one having come all the way from Severn Beach! The next general opening will be for Heritage Open Days on 9 & 10th September 2006.
This display features Greg Leary's LWB 160/1 from Crewe and Steve Knight's LWB 160/2 from Wivenhoe Cross. The LWB 170/1 is from North Devon whilst below it is an LWB 170/3 and a 165/1, both from the Midlands.
