The Schedule of Works for each box
1. On arrival check that all components are present:
Door, Cap, Carcass castings
Fittings - hinge pins, tablet holder tablet box, collection plate, collection plate retaining bar, lock & key, lock plate
Accessories - Collection Plate, Time tablet, wire cage
2. Loosen any mortar, cement or adherent soil
3. Wire brush or sander to remove loose paint, or if necessary send for bead blasting.
4. On return from blasting, apply 1 coat of spray Red Oxide primer paint to outside and Grey Primer to inside and basket
5. Apply an even coat of Post Office Red and allow to dry 8-10 hours
6. Apply a second coat of Post office red and allow to dry 2 days
7. Using gold lacquer, pick out the crown and letters of the cipher
8. Using black Hammerite Smooth pick out the numbers of the cipher
9. If a pillar box, using black Hammerite Smooth paint the base
10. refit all components and test the opening/closing of the door and lock operation
11. When smooth apply oil to the lock and silicone to the edges of the door to prevent sticking
12. refit collection plate and tablet
13. Move to final position
14. Apply Accession Number label
15. Photograph and add to website
16. Stand back and admire!
